I think if it seems like someone has been inspired by me by creating something completely different, it's flattering. If they're inspired by me by pretty much doing the same thing I do, then I get pretty angry. I'm not sure why, probably because I invest a lot of time and effort in my creativity. Having a clone is the worst.
I can feel you with the "i hate everything" phase. My fashion changed a lot since then: now I just look like a little ragamuffin. But I don't know if I've ever had someone sort of copy my fashion. I went into Forever 21 this week, and nearly walked right back out, because me and the mannequin were dressed almost the same. They weren't the same clothes, but it was definitely similar. It was weird.
I love this post! If there is anything true in this world it is that everything moves in cylces (circles) Everything that once was ,will in time, be once more. That goes for ideas too. And like you said with the internet, that seems to speed up the process simply because of the amount of information and the speed at which it gets passed along. I think it's also important to note that a lot of the "new" beautiful and creative things happening in jewelry (think bones, or native culture inspired lines) or fashion (new grunge, new hippie) are also recycled ideas! They are spun through the minds of these amazing creative and talented designers and their interpretation of that idea is what we see as their final product. New and beautiful and recycled! xo
I think you make some very good points here- while it can be very infuriating to be copied, it's practically impossible for anything to be totally unique in a world like this, where everything is inspired by everything else until it's just a big tangled but beautiful mess. I only hope that people will remember to put their own spin on whatever they are inspired by, to keep things fresh and fair, and retain their individuality. I really enjoy posts such as this- being relatively new to blogging, I've found it's opened my mind to so many new ideas and debates I hadn't given much consideration before! xx (I had to edit the comment as I'd massively overused the word 'relatively'! haha.... http://thechicapprentice.blogspot.com/
First I must say you look absolutely gorgeous and I love your coat. I get so flattered when people admire my work and my style. I agree though, even if you pull inspiration from different things, you must strive to make something your own as well. That being said there is rarely a completely original idea, so people shouldn't feel like they own certain ideas or styles things. I've noticed that a lot style bloggers in particular think that they have ownership over certain trends and clothes, and some times I want to tell them to get over themselves. Haha
Your hair is SO fucking beautiful. Your dress looks so soft too.. Just like your hair. Hair. Hair. Hair.
