Swish and Sway

The best thing about acting is that I get to lose myself in another character and actually get paid for it - Leonardo di Caprio.

I think the best thing about fashion is the same thing as Leo put it about acting. We unfortunately don't get paid for wearing what we do (I believe some very popular fashion bloggers do, but that is a small percentage), but the passion we have for our fashion choices could be comparable to other passions, like acting. When we put on clothing that is foreign to us, a new style for example, we are as if putting on a different persona, playing a foreign role. Essentially we are the same, but clothes do give us that certain "something".
In Abel Ferrara's King of New York (1990) starring Christoper Walken, Laurence Fishburne, Wesley Snipes and Steve Buscemi, "A former drug lord returns from prison determined to wipe out all his competition and distribute the profits of his operations to New York's poor and lower classes in this stylish and ultra violent modern twist on Robin Hood" says IMDB.com, shows an early 90's style we haven't talked about just yet.

Scouring the net for inspiration, we are currently faced with the Spice Girls in platform shoes and wild hairdo's, mini buns and funky hair colors, Gwen Stefani and her bindi's, purple lipstick and dark lipliner and the quirky Kelly Bundy with her tight miniskirts paired up with cowboy boots or ripped at the knee high waisted Levi's jeans. But we haven't delved into what the elder generation was wearing, not the Nirvana grunge or sugar pop music loving teens and early twenty-somethings, but the mid-twenties and 30's and beyond. Now that we've pretty much squeezed out all the juice that is to be had with the 90's rage, I thought we might go ahead and take the next step. This particular film showcases the late 80's, early 90's chic fashion that is sterling collar necklaces, edgy short do's with bedazzling earrings, silk blouses and lace bralettes and bleached blond teased hair.

  1. Your ensembles are always great :) I don't even like brown, but you manage to constantly look amazing. I love the way you seem to layer clothing with such ease. Great images btw, some of them reminded me of what my mum wore in the 90s haha. Clip on earrings... some of them were crazy! (the designs)
