Androgyny : refers to the combination of masculine and feminine characteristics, according to Wikipedia.
Throughout history, we have seen the come and go of the phenomenon of the androgenous style for women.
Neckties, vests, high waisted dress pants and fedora hats, usually all belonging exclusively to the men's section, are seen worn by women, and these are just some of the articles of clothing that may be associated with this particular style.
For reference, Marlene Dietrich and Katherine Hepburn come to mind, as they represent the 1920's female sporting men's attire. As Marlene simply put it, "I dress for myself. Not for the image, not for the public, not for the fashion, not for men".

And then in 1977, one of my Woody Allen favorites, the film Annie Hall was released, with a young Diane Keaton who wore men's vintage clothing, the clothes seen on film are actually from her very own collection and soon after the release of the movie, men's clothing and pant suits, her signature look, became popular attire for women, which had a huge impact on fashion during the 1970s.

Diane Keaton has inspired my taste quite considerably lately, as with my growing hat collection and since early puberty my ongoing tom-boyish love for men's oversized sweaters and shirts, which seem not to be faltering at all as my closet seems only to consist of these items, that with her newest book out called Then Again, a collection of her mother's diary entries that Keaton found after her mother's passing away, it seemed suiting to showcase her inspiring style and career in today's post.
And it is important to say, that women such as the quirky, cool Ms. Keaton show us that we can dress the way we desire whether it be feminine or masculine or perhaps a mix of both, without having to sacrifice our comfort for the sake of fashion, all in all being stylish and true to yourself.

And herewith my polyvore outfit I put together inspired by the Androgenous style.
