And...we're still standing

My friend Hak, who recently moved back to Korea after graduating this past semester, introduced me to his favorite poem by Jean Luis Borges.

After a while you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,

And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning
And company doesn’t mean security.

And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts
And presents aren’t promises,

And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child,

And you learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.

After a while you learn…
That even sunshine burns if you get too much.

So you plant your garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really can endure…

That you really are strong

And you really do have worth…

And you learn and learn…

With every good-bye you learn.

Thanks Hak.

Flarin' all out

Its really starting to get chilly in my apartment recently, at the moment, the tip of my nose is like an icicle, just goes to show these old apartment buildings in SF really have great insulated windows. Besides the grumpiness ! Today I went back to my crafts store and got a few extras I needed for my ring making. I am making rings out of clay and then making a mold, in order to make casts out of epoxy. I tried it twice, and have now figured out what I was doing wrong, so hopefully by the end of this week, I'll show you the results !

Herewith todays outfit, where thankfully a little sun decided to show its face, so it doesn't look like I'm living in the dark anymore...

Winter's in the Air

You know its winter when...

The air is crisp and cool, but makes you wonder if your nose still belongs to your face because the technicolor red it has metamorphosized into doesn't match the rest of your body and you worry it might fall off as you no longer have feeling left.

You're taking off of a sweater and it clings to you like the neighborhood's starving cat, and at the end gives you a *zap* ! as if to say, "well screw you, I'm the one making you look better anyway".

And when you're finished taking off said sweater, your hair resembles that of Christopher Lloyd's character "Doc" and his crazy I-stuck-my-finger-into-the-eclectrical-socket-to-see-what-would-happen-hairdo' in Back to the Future.

By the way, yes, I too have fallen victim to the hype of the Tardy. And I sure do recommend the red ones, the brown is cute, but red really hits the spot. I thank the fashion world for hyping wedges, how I hate heels, the way they squish my poor pups and create the ridiculous inability to walk more than 3 feet. Sigh. This fall we've really got it easy : oversized grandpa sweaters, socks with sandals and clumpy wedges.

Happy Winter honey pot's out there ! xo
